Aussie GirlsHow exciting are these Olympics!!!!!!!!!! I’m sure you are all yelling and screaming at home like my family and I are. Have you been keeping count of our medal tally as well as your project country? It would great if you left us a comment on just how well your project country are going. Tell us how many medals they’ve won and what events they are for. Don’t forget all this information can be found on the internet. Try these sites:

www.olympics.com.au/    en.beijing2008.cn/       au.sports.yahoo.com/olympics/

Now for some good news… as from next week – week 6 – you will not be getting any homework so that you can all concentrate on your Olympic Country Study project due in week 10. Yes you can show mum and dad this to prove it!!!! But it’s not a homework holiday, use the time wisely to make sure your Country Project has LOTS of good well sourced information so your presentation will knock the rest of the school’s socks off!

This week in Year 3 we continue to look at the lead up to the Olympics. The countdown is on, only 13 days to go until the opening on the 08.08.08. You will all be given some more information on your Olympic Country Study and what is required of you at the end of this week so please remember to empty your school bags.

This term is School Concert term – week 9 to be exact and we in Year 3 are very excited to be doing two of the fun songs from the Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta musical “Grease”. We ask that as a family you start thinking about your costume for the concert.

GIRLS – We would like the girls to wear a skirt. It would be preferable if they could find or make a simple 50′s style elastic waist circle skirt, however, any ‘full’ style skirt from a 2nd hand store or their own wardrobe would be fine. For the top half the girls can wear either, a PLAIN coloured t-shirt or a PLAIN coloured button through blouse - their winter school blouse is perfect. A scarf will be tied around their neck but we haven’t decided if we will make them yet or not – TBA. They will also need plain socks they can fold down to be worn with either their black school shoes, white sneakers (such as volleys) or non-slip sandals. Where possible, all girls will have high ponytails and ribbons.

BOYS – Boys need to wear jeans that are able to be rolled up at least twice. Their black school shoes with folded white socks. On the top they can wear either:- a plain white or black T-shirt under a denim or vinyl jacket or under a stiff collared shirt (the collar will need to stand up).

The dates for this and many other events this term are on the Dates for your Diary page (top right of this page). Please get mum and dad to check this page regularly (at least each time your homework is given out).

Have a great week, from Mrs Wood and Mrs Peck

Awwwwwwwwww!Well I hope you all had a wonderful holiday Year 3. As you can see from these pictures, Miss Charnock certainly had an exciting and very busy break. From all of us here in Year 3 we congratulate MRS WOOD on her beautiful wedding to Mr Wood. I’m sure you will all agree she made a beautiful bride. It will definately take some getting used to, calling her Mrs Wood.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs WoodOk now down to business… We have another exciting term ahead of us. We will be closely following the Beijing Olympics along with the countries and cultures of the other competitors. Each of you will be given a country to study and near the end of the term you will present your information to the rest of the class, the school and your parents in the form of an international expo in the school hall. Please don’t be too worried about this, we will give you and your parents more information in a few weeks and we promise it will be great fun. You might like to start thinking about this now though because you will be required to gather lots of information on this country including facts about the culture and the food they eat. Some children may choose to do this in groups of 2 or 3 – please choose carefully though because some of you live quite a distance apart and that will make it difficult for your parents. More will be explained in class over the next few weeks…

As usual there is quite a lot on this term so I have created a new page (see top right of this blog page) to share with you and your parents called Dates for your Diary. Soon after we get back to school I will get this page updated and keep it updated so please be sure to let your parents know all about it. It will have important school events – which will be in the School Newsletter but also important dates just for our class.

Ok Ok that’s enough for now, enjoy the last of your holiday and I look forward to seeing you all back in our classroom.

Mrs Peck :)

This week Year 3 and Year 4 came together as a whole Stage 2 group and were divided up in to 3 classes for our new English and Literacy groups. These have commenced once again now that the NAPLAN is long behind us. This time round, however, the groups have been divided up between Mrs Peck, Ms Charnock and Mr Ogilvie and instead of breaking into groups within those classrooms, we are now working as a whole class. So far this seems to be working well with the children having lots of fun in each classroom. No groups have been set in stone as yet, so some movement between groups may occur.

Thanks to all those who turned up to Saturday night’s Children’s Liturgy. We had a record 39 children in Mrs Peasley’s room. Well done and thanks for your support.

Don’t forget your HSIE – Where’s Collie projects are due in next Monday. By the sounds of things these are going to be great. All those children who are not able to print colour pictures or do not have current internet access should have seen us by now for copies of pictures and information.

Keep your eyes and ears posted because in the next few weeks some information will go home about another Stage 2 excursion. This time to a National Park………..

Thanks to all those who are adding their wonderful comments. Maybe this time you could let us know some interesting information about your Collie site.

Happy Blogging :)

Hi everyone, what a crazy couple of weeks we’ve had together here at St Joey’s! We haven’t even had time to think about our blog let alone update it with all our latest happenings, those being, Reconciliation, Eucharist preparation, our ’Where’s Collie’ research and of course Australia’s very first NAPLAN testing. Goodness me how time flies when your having fun!

Well congratulations to you all for completing Australia’s very first ever NAPLAN tests. We are so proud of you all. We’ve had some very intensive weeks in Year 3 where there was more Maths and English and less play and fun it seemed. Thank goodness it’s all over and I’m quite sure we will be making up alot of our missed P.E. time in the next few weeks as reward for a job well done.

Please let your parents know that we are now preparing for our First Eucharist which will take place on Saturday evening the 21st of June. THIS WEEKEND however, we will be presenting all our Eucharist candidates at our special Children’s Liturgy – Saturday night, 24th May, at 6.30pm. Please let your parents know it is important to try and make it to this special service.

Thank you for all your wonderful homework items. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of effort you are putting into the homework grids and how much you all seem to be enjoying them. We will be continuing this type of homework throughout the year. However, this week in light of our ‘Where’s Collie’ class project, we will be setting the homework to that theme. Each of you will have to make a poster of one of the 25 ‘Collie’ sites and write a speech about your site to share with the class. We are really happy with how much you all seem to enjoy learning about these special places in Australia. Please share your enthusiasm with your parents and encourage them to check out his website…. http://www.cap.nsw.edu.au/Collie_whereishe/WheresCollie.html

Please tell mum and dad not to worry if you do not have internet access. We will give you some time at school to research your site as well as allow you to borrow books about it from the library.

All posters and speeches will be due on Monday of Week 5. Happy researching!

 Mrs P and Miss C :)

What a great day was had by all here at St Joseph’s! Please be sure to say Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to all your wonderful parents and carers who allowed you to be part of our St Pat’s celebrations today by either supplying ingredients or giving you some spending money to buy the wonderful green treats! We had so much fun working in the canteen selling lots of gooey green cup cakes, frogs in green ponds, green funny face biscuits, green icecreams and milkshakes, and of course the Irish Potato treats! Because of your participation today we were able to donate $90 worth of gold coins to Project Compassion and over $300.00 from the sale of your class goodies to go towards some great new books for our school. What a wonderful effort Joey’s! Congratulations.

Please don’t forget to let your friends and family know that we will be opening our school hall to the public on Wednesday between 10.00 - 12.00 as part of our Holy Week celebrations. As a way of saying thank you to the community for supporting our school we have also invited these visitors into our school to share some morning tea with us. We would love to see some of your family there.

In case mum and dad didn’t believe you, you can show them this….. there is no homework for Week 8 or 9 as they are both short weeks. However, if you would REALLY like some, you might like to think about writing us an Easter narrative over the Easter Break. Remember a narrative is not a recount, so you can make up a story for us – don’t forget the OCSC in your narrative.

Thanks again mums and dads!

Mrs P :)

Hi everyone and welcome to Week 7 already! We had a HUGE week last week with Reconciliation on Wednesday night and our Pool Picnic on Friday night. A great time was had by all. Thanks to all who attended these nights.

We have another big week ahead as we continue our preparation for the National Testing Program or NAPLAN as we call it (the new BST). We will also be continuing our training for the School Cross Country on the 3rd of April.

Yesterday a note went home asking for green jelly for our class contribution to our St Patrick’s Day celebrations on Monday. Thank you to those who have already bought their packets in, we are really looking forward to making our “frogs in a pond” for the green food stall. If any of your parents have some free time on Friday we would welcome their help with the preparation of our jelly cups. We are really excited about the St Patrick’s Day Celebrations. Each class is making a green delicacy to sell in the canteen at Lunch 1 and 2 to raise money for some school resources. I heard a rumour that green icecreams, biscuits, milkshakes, apple slinky’s, jelly and more will be for sale! AND the teachers are going to be working in the canteen!!!!So don’t forget to do some chores over the weekend to earn yourself some spending money.

Swimming is on as usual this week, but sadly this will be our last trip to the pool this term.

Finally, a reminder that YEAR 3 NEEDS TO DRINK MORE MILK!!!! We are really lagging behind n the milktop tally Year 3. Save those lids and bring them in to raise some money for the new sports equipment.

Thanks everyone

Mrs Peck :)

Dear Parents,

For some of you, tonight is the night your child will receive the Sacrament of First Reconciliation.

 WHEN & WHERE:

Tonight, Wednesday 5th March, 2008 at 6:30pm       In Our Lady of Lourdes Church

The children will take part, with you their families, in the celebration at which Father Paul will be our main celebrant with the assistance of Father Michael. Please be seated in the Church by 6:20pm so that we can begin at 6:30pm. The children have practiced during school this week for the Sacrament and know what is expected of them.

THE SACRAMENT:Your family will have a seat designated for you (in alphabetical order) which your child will lead you to on the night. The Sacrament will take place as a Liturgy of the Word followed by the children’s individual confessions. At this time you, their parents, will be asked to take them to the Priest then return to your seat. The children will light a candle as they complete their confession and return to their seat for quiet prayer and reflection. The ceremony will end with a prayer for parents and children to pray, the presentation of certificates and final blessing.

WHAT TO WEAR:This is a special occasion for the children and they should wear nice, tidy clothes to fit the occasion.

We look forward to sharing with you and your child this special experience.

Amanda Charnock and Vanessa Peck

Hi Year 3 and Welcome to the blog page made exclusively for you!

Well now that we have finally settled into the fast pace of Year 3, it’s time to introduce you and your parents to our Class Blog. We are very excited to be able to share this unique mode of communication with you and your family, and encourage you to regularly check this site and contribute to it as often as possible. We will be using this blog for fun as well as our class noticeboard, with lots of important information about upcoming news and events. Like, for example, our First Reconciliation this Wednesday night. We will post some last minute pointers on here for you and your parents and if they have any questions, they can reply back to us by submitting a comment. Please let your parents know that they can also “subscribe” to our blog by entering their email address into the box on the right and any new posts (like this one) will be sent out to their email address to keep them well informed about all things school! A very handy option, that we highly recommend.

Every time you write a comment, your classmates will be able to read it too (after it has been checked by your teacher). Please show your parents the “What is a blog?”, “The Parents Page” and the “Rules for Blogging” pages so they can better understand what this is all about.

Well, to get the ball rolling, I would like you to send me a comment about the very best thing you like about Year 3 so far.

Happy blogging…

Mrs P :)
